Process Timeline Possibilities

Sophomores continue their on-campus experience, building upon the relationships they built during their first year on campus. Most sophomores live in traditional residence halls. Some sophomores may be able to live in apartment-style housing. Please see Junior and Senior Housing for apartment-style buildings.

Process

Rising sophomores are required to live on campus for their sophomore year. All eligible rising sophomores are required to complete a housing application via the Housing Portal.

Accessing the Housing Portal

Log into SIS.
Click on “About Me,” then click on “Housing.”
Once you have reached the Home Page, click on “Application” on the top left of the screen.

Types of Housing

The number of room types listed on each residence hall page reflects the total number of spaces in that particular residence hall and does not accurately represent the number of rooms available during general housing selection. The numbers of rooms on the pages linked below do not consider spaces not available during general selection such as resident assistant spaces or spaces selected by students ahead of general selection. We will send an email closer to the time of group formation with a list of spaces available during general selection.

Special Interest, Theme, and Fraternity/Sorority Housing

Students wishing to reside in a special interest, theme, or identity-based house should also apply through the housing portal following the timeline below. Students who are accepted will have their housing assignments finalized by early February and will have completed the housing lottery process.
Housing applications for students who are interested in living in theme, special interest, or fraternity/sorority housing is available to all students to apply, even those with a waitlist number.
Students who have been accepted into in a theme/special interest community or Greek housing will have completed the process and will no longer need to participate in the housing selection process. Lottery numbers and waitlist numbers for those who have accepted placement will be nullified.

About the Two-Year Residency Requirement

Students are required to live on campus for the equivalent of four semesters in University-sponsored housing.
Transfer students coming in as the equivalent of a sophomore student are not guaranteed to live on-campus for their full first year at Tufts but may be offered space as available.
In the case of a student who studies abroad through a Tufts-approved program during their sophomore year, that semester counts as a semester on-campus for the four-semester residence requirement
A student who would start their fall semester as a second-semester sophomore may continue to be guaranteed housing for the entire academic year, however, as they would be a Junior in their second/spring semester of that academic year, they would participate in the housing selection process with the other Juniors who received lottery numbers.
Rising Sophomore students are required to remain on campus to comply with the residency requirement. Rising sophomores who fail to complete their application prior to this deadline will be issued a housing application via the Office of Residential Life and Learning.
Sophomore students whose fourth semester of their housing residency requirement is in the Fall of 2024, and who took leave from the University, will be offered the option to apply to campus housing for the full academic year or live off-campus.
Students who took leave from the University for a full year will be considered to be their appropriately associated class year per their re-entry to the University.

October 17 at noon - Housing Portal opens
January 23 - Housing Application closes for Sophomores, Theme & Special Interest Communities, and Greek Housing
January 23 – Deadline for rising sophomores with documented disabilities to apply for housing accommodations (visit the StAAR Center for more information)
February 9 - Rising Sophomore Lottery Numbers distributed via Tufts email
February 9 – March 22 – Housing Accommodation meetings for rising sophomores
March 24 - March 29 - Sophomore housing group formation
- March 24 at 9 p.m. - March 25 at 3 p.m. – 10-person group formation
- March 25 at 9 p.m. - March 26 at 3 p.m. – 6-person group formation
- March 26 at 9 p.m. - March 27 at 3 p.m. – Singles group formation
- March 27 at 9 p.m. - March 28 at 3 p.m. – Triple & Quad group formations
- March 28 at 9 p.m. - March 29 at 3 p.m. – Doubles group formation

Housing selection hours begin depending on your confirmed lottery placement (if you were approved for a group) and/or lottery number.

January 23, 2024 - Housing Application Closes including Theme/Special Interest Communities and Fraternity/Sorority Housing
February 16 - RA positions offered to qualified candidates
February 21 - RA acceptances due
February 26 - Theme/Special Interest Community Placement offers distributed
February 26 - March 1 - Fraternity and Sorority Housing Selection
March 1 - Theme/Special Interest Community Acceptances due by 5 p.m.
March 4- 8 - Theme/Special Interest Community Accommodation Placements
March 11 - 15 - Theme/Special Interest Community Housing Selection
