Jumbo Spring Break FAQs

  • JSB stands for Jumbo Spring Break. It is a holistic experience designed to promote community service, education, and civic engagement. It is also meant to bring students together through a variety of hosted social events and offer an alternative way to spend spring break for all students that plan on staying on campus or in Boston during break time.

  • The experience runs from March 18 to 22! There will also be a couple of pre-experience events to get oriented to the schedule and meet people, and a debrief/reunion at the end of the semester.

  • Civic engagement experiences will involve partnering with a government, non-profit, or other organization to make a meaningful contribution to their mission related to the theme. You will learn about the topic and engage in a project to make a difference and contribute to the community. Civic engagement experiences will vary by themes. To know more about the themes find information on the Experiences page.

  • There is a $500 program fee that covers the cost of all meals, transportation, and event expenses. Students who receive the highest levels of financial aid from Tufts are eligible for fee waivers.

  • Once you sign up, we are relying on you to show up to all civic engagement experience and career treks. The social events are optional, but very popular. While there will be free time most days that you could use for other time commitments, there won’t be enough free time where you can take on other major commitments.

  • Once you sign up, we are making arrangements just for you. If you are no longer able to attend, write to us at springbreak@tufts.edu. If there is a waiting list, we will attempt to give your spot to a person on the wait list. No refunds are possible after February 9.
